Here's a problem for you freelander boys.
Took my 2.0TDI in for 30K service. It has developed a scraping noise from the front discs, not under heavy breaking but whilst gently braking, its been back to the garage twice for detailed look and stripdown and 'now its has been regreased' all will be ok.
After 3 days motoring the noise has returned bigtime, whats my next step? rant and rave at garage/customer services at Land Rover/ have a look myself/ go to another garage/hope it goes away/.
I'm going to Italy at the end of the month and I would like peace of mind whilst descending an Alp as I want to get to the bottom of the Alp under control conditions and not at "brake-neck speed" ( pun intended)

mine make a grinding nosie too, quite annoying really.
hopefully changing them when i get home from work (only the front tho) pads look a bit threadbare,

just out of interest will Ovoline lubricant be ok as an anti-seize thingy, can get hold of copper grease.

Landrover garage has fitted new pads, new discs and regreased everything bit STILL the noise is there under braking, its frustrating

if discs and pads been changed and it still there could it be the rear drums do ya think?

if changing my discs and pads don't work then there will be lots of swearing and jumping up and down, then i'll move onto the back,

Hi

I changed front disk and pads on mine and it still has the grinding noise in front!!!

Think it's the pads thats bad quality but i'm not buy'ing new ones AGAIN! :(

I've only been driving for 45 years and I think the noise is coming from the front. My own feeling is the brake pads are not high quality and in answer to Jimy110 I think the mud/dust shield is there to protect the pads from ingesting dirt onto the pad and making a scraping noise...mmmmmm perhaps the shield isn't up to the job

i wasn't being funny or owt just throwing ideas around really. one of my mud shields somehow ended up rubbing on the disc, made a rate racket. got some funny looks too whilst getting home.

if you've paid them to investigate and repair the grinding sound and they haven't take it back, again and again if necessary. If you only told them to replace the brake pads because that's what you thought was wrong, then you have little comeback.

I've taken two ' landrover engineers' out for a drive and both said the noise was from the front and both said it was unacceptable. The garage has stripped down the brakes, regreased and put them back.....I'm wondering if they are using inferior pads..is puzzling-annoying-how much loyalty do I have-this is the second freelander I have had and this is the first time I have experinced this problem. Its only happened AFTER they changed my pads at the 30K service.

My money is on the family circle tin lid on the back called the "dust sheild" sneeze too close to them and they warp and rub on the disk. All it takes is for someone to be careless when changing the pads and the sheild will make a right racket. Sometimes on heavy braking, sometimes on light braking, sometimes on lock, sometimes on corners...sometimes when it rains, sometimes when it's a full moon... Jack it up and rotate the wheel as much as you can back and forth and you should hear it catching slightly. Usually a prod around with a flat bladed screwdriver sorts it...or makes it worse!
