Hi I've just aquired a k reg discovery 300 tdi. The interior's ok, the 4 wheel drive low gears work, the engine's fine, the body's seen better days but the chasis is fine. Trouble is the floor's gone at the back where it joins the chasis and "naturally" where the rear seat belts attach. Its a no hoper MOT wise without some significant welding and a new floor.

Question is - Is this worth paying for anyone to do ? I'm not a mechanic myself and the disco has plenty of other "sales unfriendly features" (eg door locks don't work / doors open etc etc). I'm guessing the answers no.

Could do with some pictures to see the scale of welding required, however, theres nothing that cant be fixed, if the rest of the discos as described i'd be tempted to fix it up. How much did you pay for it? Disco's tend to sell well, if not for great money.

As for the door locks you can pick them up from a scrapper or fleabay for not a lot...as you can just about anything else.

Not sure what you mean with 'doors open'. Mine do too, it aids in entering and vacating the vehicle... :)

Tis like vague news ere!!!

Yes you MUST fix it under absolutely NO circumstances, but if you don't fix it, make sure you fix it really well Oh and when you get round to not fixing it, make sure you spend lots of time doing it.

The rust is pretty bad at all the points where the body joins the chasis. Looks like someone's been chewing on it in at least four places:-D I'm told it needs a complete new floor plus whatever is used to join the two. I paid £600 and I could get £350 - £500 for it as a non runner. I have no idea how much a complete floor replacement + welding etc would cost at a garage. It would only be worth doing if it was great otherwise, or if I was intending to learn to do small jobs myself.
So the question is what's likely to be the worst case scenario for the welding alone...

PS I meant that the doors open when the car is locked and armed - well open in so far as they ever open....Locks and cables dodgy

New floor is £50. depending how bad it is you may have to replace some of the struts as well. but it doesn't have to be welded it can be pop riveted or even screwed with self tappers. the Struts will obviously have to be welded.
