Has any one tried the Diagnostic Scanners that are being sold on Ebay for around £25, where do you plug it in on an 05 diesel. My Haynes doesn't show it.

post the link, and we'll have a look. my 2003 td4 has the diagnostic socket at floor level, tucked up behind the front centre console, behind the ashtray, mounts on a metal bracket

I have a ELM 327 with OBD2 software, I loaded the software onto my laptop and plugged the ELM 327 scanner into the diagnostics socket (center console passengers side foot-well, remove plastic protective cover from socket) on my 04 TD4 and it works with limitations, the software that comes with the scanner is freeware and is only good for resetting the mill light and looking at any fault codes on the engine but not all.

There is no reason why you can't buy Elm 237 obd2 software that will talk to most of the electronic equipment that is used on the Freelander IE air bags, running gear, brakes, fuel pump pressure etc, don't be tempted to buy the software from Flea bay it is rubbish freeware or/and in German, I am still on the look out for some good software that is not to expensive that will do all that the land rover test book will do, but as of yet have not found it and maybe never will.

If any member knows of any good all round Elm 327 OBD2 diagnostic software please let me know.

Does ELM 327 Only work on diesel or will it work on a K series 99 Petrol Model
Hi Genty, it will only work on OBD2 compliant cars petrol or diesel, I believe OBD2 came in on the Freelander in 2003 but I might be wrong, so I don't think the 1999 freelander is compliant.

Let us know if you find owt. Still waiting for my reader from Hong Kong. Not even sure it will work on my car. As its a TD4 year 2000. But it only cost £14 with postage, so worth a gamble.

Just to let you know, I got my scanner from Hong kong. Tried it on my TD4 X reg (2000). It works:) :) :) . Now trying to get some better software

Sorry for delay, not been on the puter for a bit. I got mine from flea bay. Just looked for the cheapest. I paid £13.99 for postage, and won it with a 0>01 bid so got it for £14. I've just looked on flea bay and one is going for £11 postage and £1 bid. Mine was from a seller tangxiaorui2000.
But so lang as its OBD11 ELM327 USB Can-BUS v1.2a (as mine is). It should work.

The software I have working is Scantool, which came with it. I have also downloaded WOBD which works as well. Still looking for better software as the info is a bit limited with these.

Reading rover Ron's page on the Rover web. He says that on the older Diesels (like mine), they don't read that much info. Also he says that sometimes it does not always read the fault codes. It can say no fault codes exist, when infact they do. I can't confirm this as my TD4 ain't got a problem at the mo.
So when my ELM says its got no faults, its probably correct!

Anyway for £12 - £14 its got to be worth a go

Spot on!

No faults on mine that I know of but I've got my bid on - once I know it works (hopefully) I'll create a few errors by unplugging things! Mind - think i'll try on work van first!

Does this scanner only reads the engine codes or all codes. I'm confused with all the postings some say that it can read all codes others
only engine codes others that it doesn't work at all. I have a W reg Freelander xedi disel but I have no idea what works and doesn't. Please help people.
