First the disco now the defender. thanks ford, thanks alot  welcome to explorer land. by the styleing they seem to be aiming more at the american market. have they learnt nothing from the discovery sales in britain. and i quote " back like a transit connect van and back end like a ice cream van, stop me and buy one" un quote. i have read somewhere that ld are offering those who change there "ere" landies every three years 30% off the new disco 3's because there not selling in the numbers first thought. what a suprise. disco 3 owners i do apologize its getting late but i'll stick with my trusty 300 tdi disco, defender drivers, bad luck chaps but you new it had to come sometime. ;)

Oh dear, I had high hopes for the new defender model but those images look totally pants. If they do come out with that pile of rubbish then I would think original defender prices will stay high and be very sought after!

christ it looks like a frontera!....I can see why the yanks would design a new one tho'...I cant believe those fat b*stards can fit in the defender seats ( thats if they can manage to haul themselves in through the door in the first place...)

Again, Land Rover have missed the point! IF IT IS NOT BROKE, DO NOT FIX IT!

Ford are obviously hugely un aware of how good the defender is. It will **** over any of those poxy rangers!

For pitys sake Land Rover see the wood through the trees for once, this is the vehicle that has made LR's name.

Anyone up for an online petition?

jim

The Greatest vehicle ever produced...and they want to change it. You would think they would start with all the crap cars they make themselves first.

YES

Legislation for vehicles is changing, and one of those is front impact to pedestrians. As well as other markets the Defender is required to fill apart from British farming and Millitary, this must be a really tough call for Land Rover.

I really think "Concept drawings" on the north American website Roverparts, is nothing new - we've seen these before. Compare them to the new FreeLander.

I thiink this is a really exciting, and look forward to it being built - as means we can start to trash it.

BTW they look like baby Hummers don't they. Cool.

However think it will be more likely like this:

Er, Slob mate, they don'tent look too Dutch to me!

Seriously though (& I know I'm an interloper in here owning a Series III & all), but I, II, IIa, III, Defender, you can see the progression............To that? What the F'.......? How can you even call it a Defender?

Though having been a "real" Mini owner until recently (same progression, you look at a Mk1 Mini & compare at least it's external appearance to the last of the line 40 years later) & remembering my disgust at BMW's intervention, then my disgust at seeing how well their complete departure from the marque actually sold in the marketplace I agree with Roy. Hang on to your Defenders all, they may be the last remnants of the proper looking Land Rover!

Depressed now!

minis and landrovers are susposed to be drafty leaky things with hard suspension , a four pot engine that you can fix with a hammer and a screw driver and doors that don't fit. they ruined both by trying to up date them.
they even have proper window on them now that you can shut with one hand

" baby hummers"..."cool"?....so you would be american then....
NO Hummers are cars driven by drug dealers and footballers....very very uncool.

How do you think the series boys felt when the defender was launched?
Is it all bad news?im not so sure,if production stays at Solihull then great, the images on the link are only preliminary art work and are not cast in stone...i fookin hope not anyway because they are total ****e looking.
Lets wait and see, petition or no petition, ford aint gonna change their minds because of us.
My personal view is,leave the defender as it is in the main.
If they do opt for a major reshape etc,can always cover it in chequer plate,ha ha.Now there's a marketing idea.

Maybe, but these people used to drive Range Rovers - right. Obviously Hummers aren't designed for our roads - imagine meeting one down a country lane, when your towing a horse trailer  . But have seen them off road and they are awesome - albeit in Military films.
Hey it was only an impression from the piccy's.

BTW do you like the sinlge piece rear and side doors on the new Defender XS ? Evolution - Evolve or die.
Having said that the Santa nana is  sat in one at LRO last year, anyone got one ?
I expect this is all that will remain of the original design by 2008. They are supposed to be bringing out a SWB - a leafer I expect. That'll brighten up the Series 3 brigade - Sorry Colin... ;)

You'r all talking bollocks, well some of you anyway.

The manufacturers, call them Ford, Land Landrover BMW it doesn't matter, they will build whatever makes a profit. A vehicle that the minority, i.e. me and you, Think is brilliant, i.e the Defender, 90, 110, Series, etc. Is not a going concern, the majority doesn't want it.

Look back at the Meridan Triumph, what a load of bollocks. People were sending money to them, "I GAVE BLOOD TO TRIUMPH". What for, to keep a design going that should have died a decade before.

How many of you can say "My Defender, or whatever, is up there in the competetive market" and keep a straight face.

Any old how I'm talking like them down the bottom off the page, I think I'll go for a smoke.
