Afternoon all,

I recently changed all my injector seals with genuine new ones. I've also put a new fuel pressure regulator on as well. But that was after this issue. So basically I've bled and purged the system and it will run for a few minutes and just cut out. Sounds to me like air in the system, lots of white smoke on start up. Sometimes think blue smoke.
If I bleed it again with 5 pumps it's will take some turning over but eventually go again and do exactly the same.

The car ran perfectly before I changed them but they needed to be done. A bit of preventive maintenance. In this case maybe not so preventive

Any help would be much appreciated.

Are you able to check the fuel pressure at the FPR? Just trying to rule out the fuel pump as it's filter can get clogged if the injector seals go and allow carbon in the system.

Unfortunately not as I've not got a diagnostic tool to check it. Going to borrow my friend's and hopefully purchase a nanocom in the near future. But I have got a new fuel pump and non return valve on order as I've noticed the rubber bit is missing off the black part of the valve. But the pump is running but its original done 200,000 as far as I know. But always ran fine until I done the seals. But they weren't actually that bad the old ones.

Did you order a decent pump? Vdo/Siemens? If it’s at the mileage it will be tired for sure and will only let you down in future! See how you get on with the new pump. Don’t think nanocom will give you fuel pressure - you’d have to tap Into regulator to get that. Pump may be running but only at low pressure. A quick test is checking it with a multimeter - a forum search will show you that. If it’s only running at low it will fire but be a bag of ****.
Whilst your at it, check your injector harness hasn’t failed and is leaking oil into the ecu/plug

To be honest it has always felt a little down on power compared to others I have driven. Maybe that's what it is. Yes I've ordered a VDO genuine one as I like by the motto "Buy cheap buy twice" okay I will look into that. It runs great when it starts but just keeps cutting out after a few minutes. Sounds like fuel starvation. I've just replaced the harness as well when I did the seals.

Nice one. I started mine one morning and it sounded like a cat being strangled so it was that obvious is was the pump. I’ve had to do same as you but my seals were done couple years back.

Ah was the pump whining louder than normal? I have noticed mine is doing that now. And what sounds like bubbling in the fuel cooler. I will check the pressure etc. But worth changing the pump anyway as I've already ordered it. Sure that's what it is, I've been thinking it's probably been on its way out for a while. It was obviously good enough to keep it running and driving but not manly enough to bleed and keep the fuel back up to the engine.

Right just had a quick check of my fuel pump pressure via the multimeter and pump fuse (F23) Seems to be kicking out a steady 20Mv. Which in my mind I think is good I'm going to change it anyway just to be safe as I think it's the original. But the filter in the FPR isn't blocked though because I've had it out and put a new one in and a new FPR.

If you know the fpr is good, and pump is suspect then hopefully that’s it. Again I had same with my pump, fizzing around the fpr. I replaced my fpr with a Bosch one. If it doesn’t cure it and you can here air or gurgling you’ve prob got air getting in. Nanocom is worth the buy mate for sure. It’s so useful.

Fingers crossed!

Yes a nanocom is definitely my next investment, I've been working on a lot of disco td5s recently. So I'm sure it's well worth it's weight in gold. Especially for when the world is back to normal and we can go out again on off-roading road trips.

Thanks for all the help, much appreciated!

Situation update:
She is now back up and running as suspected it was the fuel pump that was faulty. Although it gave a good pressure reading using a multimeter clearly wasn't working properly. Chucked the new one in this afternoon, primed her once fired straight up and stayed running. Problem solved :)

Thanks all for your help in fault finding!

Great news and well done for giving feedback - always helps when someone searches in the future. Bet you it feels much faster now too. Worth changing the MAF at some point and giving your MAP sensor a clean. In fact blank the egr and give the whole inlet a clean if you have to tinker like most of us lol. Will be caked if it’s done 200k with egr still running

Definitely feels a bit more spritely :)
I have fitted a new actuator, MAF and EGR delete. Recently and gave everything a good clean. The intake did look somewhat like a Welsh coal mine but now she is nice and clean. Only thing she does do is suck a bit of oil through the breather pipe into the intake. So I may need to fit a catch can at some point.
