Has anyone seen or know of the Aluminium Blocks fitted with glow plugs and water in/outlet pipe connections - these are used to preheat veg oil then after engine temp gets above 70 deg the glow plugs switch off. Are these any good ? and can I pipe one of these inline with my supply fuel pipe as per instructions and simply run on 100% veg oil ??? These are on Ebay but just wondered if they're worth buying ??? see pic attached.

i dont know about this particular block, but generally you will be ok in the summer on 100% svo with it. but in winter think you will still need to start up and shut down on derv. which means some sort of 2 tank system.

i cant see how the block will heat the oil in the fuel line section between the block and the IP (and the oil inside the IP). no matter how small the length of pipe?

ive been dabling with this for a couple of years now and find the cheaper the oil the least amount of problems (as it is thinner) i dont heat in the summer and in the winter mix with diesel 50/50 or a substance similar maybe heating oil (not saying that i do that) but you must remember to lubricate the dp i use two stroke oil 50:1 works fine and i have now put 20000+ on one vehicle with this method
good luck roger

I'm going to try running on 100% SVO by piping an inline electric Standadyne fuel heater to the supply pipe on my filter, also have an electric heater plate to go between the filter and housing. I realise the the fuel in the pump and injector lines will be cold but i'm attaching 4 aluminium clamp units I've had made around the lines that incorperate Glow Plugs. All of which will then be controlled through a relay which switches out after the Engine water takes over heating the fuel supply.

it sounds perfect what your doing but i really dont think it is all necessary as i said ive had years of trouble free running
just remember this chip oil will not lubricate the pump
keep in touch its nice to be able to talk to someone about this without worrying what they might say to the wrong people

well .. my mum will vouch I am a good guy !!

I want to keep my running costs down .Should I buy a commercial discovery 300 this week?

And I do understand that certain pumps do and dont like running on a oil mix.

what advice should I take?? please 'talk" in real simple speak !!!!!! as I dont know a disco from a defender (well I do... but you know what I mean !)

thanks

basically in a nutshell, IPs like the famous lucas cav dont like vegie oil. but most german and most jap types seem ok with it.
we are talking the older ones here, not the newest types. as no one seems to have enough experience to give a positive comment yet.

the early discos seem ok on a 50/50 mix. but long term on 100%?, again no one can tell as nobody has done/reported big mileage yet.
