hi guys, been doing some electrical tinkering last weekend and my engine is running on for about 3-5 seconds after the key is turned off.

The voltage on the fuel stop solenoid is

0v no key in
12v key in and turned to ignition
0v straight away if key is turned off without turning engine on

0v no key in
12v key in and turned to ignition
13-14 key in engine on
Drops to 0 over a few seconds with key off

It’s definitely electrical. The check battery light comes on for a few seconds when the key is off too so I was wondering if anyone knows of a good trouble shooting path to follow to find that bit of stray voltage from the altenator?

Pretty sure I’ve upset some earthing?

It’s a defender with a 300tdi conversion with confusing home brew electrics. I’d like to rewire it but don’t dare until I’m confident I can do it in one weekend.

Thanks a lot

Thanks mate. I’ve just been going over loads of wiring in the engine bay and I’m going to start rewiring this weekend. I’ve had some earth issues in the past and just need to sort it all properly and replace everything with the correct coloured wires at least. Runs like a dream otherwise so it’s a shame a load of electrical tape and loose ends spoil it. Will be getting the bus on Monday I think

Handbrake cable has been knocking on the centre seat box cover so that needs a check and tidy up as it’s driving me mad. Thanks again
