I don't get why they do/did it.. even if you think you're just putting on a show for the camera nobs who haven't got jobs to go to.. most of the time the water is too deep without a raised intake and they go too quick either way

Some of the ones that you see look really high end!!

Low % of peeps know the max wading depth of their vehicle and how to cross water safely. So they're easily caught out if they don't see a risk. I fink the 'it will be ok' facter kicks in. That and the filmers often waving peeps to go through, which cures any doubt drivers may have had.
