Rubber windscreen bracket gaskets

I'm planning to make some windscreen bracket gaskets from some EPDM rubber sheeting that I have left over. The idea being that the rubber will create a watertight seal and resolve my water ingress issues (or at least that water ingress issue)

Can anyone think why this might be a bad idea before I go for it?

It's what I did during my restoration maybe 17 yrs ago now. Still fine.

That's good enough for me! I've given it a go - I wonder if they'll still be good in 17 years...
