Other RSW EAS software on a win 10 Tablet

Anyone tried to run the above software on a Win 10 tablet? My old laptop is getting tired and if it works a 10" Tablet would be ideal.
I don't want to risk buying only to find out it doesn't work.

Even better, port the whole lot to Android and get a Samsung tablet. Mind you, touch screen and oil and grease? Wonder if Otter Box do one big enough? Probably.

Not a simple matter to port on to Android as the software uses Windows Net Framework, there have been attempts to emulate Net Framework on Android but I have not seen anything that looks like it might do the job so far.

Might be better to go back to the start and code from scratch if Storey is willing to share the way the ECU communicates. Beyond my ken. Last thing I programmed was in Fortran.
 
It runs fine on a windows tablet, my dad runs it like that. You might struggle finding one with a full size USB port for the USB -> serial adaptor, but they do exist, or you can go mini->full size->serial if you like dongles.

Rather than trying to port the existing application to android it shouldn't be too difficult to write a version for android. I did start working my way through reverse engineering the protocol (since I couldn't find any documentation for it) to build an arduino version, but then life got in the way.

If I ever get round to it, I'll make a device that you plug into the ODBII port, and then it creates a wifi network you can connect to and do all the EAS stuff via a webpage from any device.

Which version of Windows please? The size of the USB port is irrelevant I have plenty of micro USB to full size adaptors or I could make up a micro USB cable with USB to serial built in.
I just don't want to spend out on a Win tablet and find it will not do the job, pensions don't allow much slack for buying things that don't work.

Excellent bit of kit. Unfortunately, my old Prolific USB to RS232 adaptor turned out not to be compatible with Win 10 so I bought this FTDI device with a micro USB connector https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Micro-US...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
The EAS software works fine with or without the keyboard, ( as I can type fairly fast I prefer to have a keyboard).
There one anomalie, the EAS software does not report a comms failure on start up, so finding the correct port is done with no warning message.
I have tested the kit with the EAS software and the BBS Vehicle Explorer/Faultmate. The tablet/keyboard seem to be very well made.:D
