Hi all my name is Nitbint and I have owned my56 plate Sport for 11 years
It’s done 210000 miles and has been very reliable having never broken down au have just joined this forum and would appreciate your technical advice on I problem I have?
I have a wobble/vibration that’s coming from the rear wheels or drive that I cannot cure having replaced the gearbox mount, propshaft, all wishbone and anti roll bar have been re bushed new wheels and tyres, droplinks, sway bar, gear box service oil/filter etc
The wobble/vibration is only evident are speeds of around 20-40 mph and only when going up a very slight hill or incline whilst accelerating lightly.
Does anyone have any ideas as it’s really frustrating as the whole rear end of the car vibrates and feels as if your driving over a cattle grid on the rear end and this can continue for 5-10 seconds then it disappears any ideas welcome please
Thanks
Nitbint

Hi and welcome

have u had 4 x wheel alignment done after the bushes etc were replaced , including wheel balancing, tyre pressures all ok

may i ask please
1) what make and size tyres have u got on each wheel, are they all the same
2) what engine , gearbox do u have please
3) have the rear brake shoes been serviced and EPB adjusted accordingly

many thks

Isn't this similar symptoms to when the lock up clutch fails in the torque converter on the L322?
At 210k I would be thinking that gearbox and tq are probably worn beyond what an oil and filter change will fix.
@Bemble is the guru on these boxes.

Worth checking all that @gstuart suggested first though as he is the disco/sport expert.
Good luck.

hiya

shucks ur make me blush, lol

Indeed did also wonder about that ref the gearbox, would assume the Rev counter would increase if it’s slipping

also with abit more info we should then start to see what’s been covered , surprised that so much has been replaced unless it was seriously worn

including if the proper alignment has been done correctly and the bushes pre loaded before they were torqued up

Yes I’ve had the 4x wheel alignment done 3 times
Wheels have been this size for years and before the fault 285x35x22 zeta tyres on all and had this make for years as I find them excellent although a budget tyre they just last and wear great
Engine is 2.7 auto box
New EPB fitted and adjusted new shoes and spring fitting kit and back plates
Any advice welcome
Thanks

The 2.7 in the jag has active engine mounts to smooth its natural vibration out. Does the sport have those also? If so, they might not be working?

cheers , few more questions if that’s ok plse

1)do u know what atf oil was used in the gearbox please
2)when going up a hill do u notice the rev needle climb quickly or fluctuate
3) if u put the gearbox into sport mode and select the gears manually does it still do it
4) assume u get no vibration through the steering wheel
5) do u know if the gearboxes adaptions we’re reset when oil was replaced
6) has Dr tranny been added to the gearbox

was it an independent garage done the work or dealer and is the vibration through ur feet

just trying to see if we can pin it down that may help to identify the issue

thks

hi

indeed the D4, RRS have the hydraulic engine mounts , don’t think the D3 does
