I want to remove the cappings on my new Ninety to get them galvanised since the painting on these newer Defenders seems a bit rubbish.

Evidently I will need to remove the roof, but I am wondering whether I will need to replace the seals between the top of the windscreen and the roof and those between the roof and the tub, or will the old seals be reusable? I would hate to put the roof back on and find it leaks.

When you take it off if you find bits of rubber stuck to the top then replace the seals.

If you don't, give then a smear of vaseline before you stick the top back on.

i think you can get away with loosening the bolts, lifting the roof up a bit at the back and supporting it with some wood, then sliding the sides out

Yes, but will I need to replace the seals having split the roof and the tub?

Has anyone removed their cappings to get them galvanised? Did you replace the seals around the top of the tub?
