Another quick one folks,
I'm wanting to mount my spare on the roof rack.
I understand the difficulties of getting it up and down etc.
Funds not available for a swing away carrier but the wheel needs to come off the back door as it's too heavy.

Any suggestions on securing said wheel?

Thanks again

Easiest way has to be a couple of cheap ratchet straps plus a bicycle style lock to stop some muppet nicking it, remember to pack lock with grease after locking it to stop is seizing.

Make sure your roof rack is strong enough and well secured - then ratchet the f**k out of it and lock it on. Expect more roll on corners. Covering the lock with a plastic bag protects it from all the crap it's exposed to up there.

I did mine by simply making a steel flat bar with two sections of threaded large diameter rod. One flat bar clamped onto the roof rack,, two threaded rod sections up through the wheel nut holes, top flat bar bolted in place.

The other option would be to find a used bonnet mount bracket and use that.

I've also seen it done just with a ratchet strap under the rack and up through the wheel nut holes.

Do as you wish but just thought it worth adding the spare wheel is really too heavy for a roof rack from a Centre of gravity and max weight on the roof of 75KG.

Most ladder clamps fit perfectly, certainly the ones from Screwfix, as that's what I use.
A spare is fine on your roof rack, it's not going to affect the centre of gravity enough to cause you any issues, you're not driving a Vitara ffs! If you can't put a spare on the roof rack because it's too heavy, then what can you put there !? p.s. a spare wheel doesn't weigh 75kg anyway.
