maybe because a defender roof rack wont fit on a disco roof and vice versa.
they are different widths

They are worth a bloody fortune !!.
I know of only 1 for sale in the UK for a Disco 2, and that is around £600/700.
If it was off a D2, I would give you £600 for it RIGHT NOW !
Put it on Ebay, and MAKE sure you " big up " that it is a Safety Devices rack.
They have the square crushed welded joins and the the tubes are crushed wher they cross, so the bed stays leval.
Its also claimed that they will withstand a vehicle roll. They are also very light for thier size.

is that vehicle width or roof width?
if you put a disco rack next to a fender rack you would see a bit of a difference

i quoted the dimensions you gave. but were you giving the width of the vehicle or the vehicle roof though?

what are crushed square joints. D2 is a Discovery 2( think its the td5 but i might be wrong)
