Having been round this loop with something similar my advice is:
Prentend you have just received your replacment clamps.
Walk around thinking of a safe place to put them where they will be sure not to get lost.
Put them there.
Find other set already there.

ha ha, done that, spent over an hour searching for them, just cant remember what I did with them

An hour? Is that all? Man up man!
I've spent days searching for stuff. All boxes actually in the Landy first, then clamped onto summat else where they would be "safe".
Lent to someone?
On rafters in the garage roof?
Empty out all boxes full of stuff where you say to yourself "I'd never have put them there".
Behind stuff you have pushed onto a shelf or under summat a while after taking them off.
Rope in other family members. Wifey is always losing stuff and I usually find it for her!
Tell the kids you've got a search warrant and promise sweets to whoever finds them!

By the way, I have now lost the charger for my new supadupa torch that Wifey bought me a while back. I use it all the time and it's now getting low.
Have done all i would normally do to try and find it. (I am one of those peeps who only ever keeps things in one place normally, so if it ain't there I am pushed for where to start looking).
No luck, so will now proceed to empty all the boxes in the LR until i find the wretched thing.
