This may be a daft question (but I'll take the risk !!), Ive also had a search but not really found the specific info so here goes :

I'm thinking of a galvanised chassis for my 300tdi truck cab, the chassis isnt shot, but has had a few plates and will only get worse over the coming years.

I would also like to have an external rollcage (I like the qt one that doesnt intrude into the load bay with the back stays.

Every roll cage manufacturer mentions fitting kits and theres a lot of mentioning of welding brackets onto the chassis, now what I dont really want to be doing is having brackets welded onto a brand new galvanised chassis. So is it possble to have the chassis brackets fitted by the chassis manufacturer prior to galvanising, or am I wrong altogether and the brackets bolt on.

why not cut the rot out of your chassis and weld the plates flush and then add the roll cage mounts before getting it galvanised.
 
any solution other than cutting out the rot ? Id quite like to fit a new chassis

ive purchased a new engine and need to get new mounts fitting to my chassis & needs all 4 outriggers replacing and the rear xmember. - quite spendy(even doing the welding my self) to still have rusting rotty main rails. Makes the cost of a galvy chassis seem quite good

Anyone make a chassis and roll cage combo with mounts already fitted to a galvanised chassis ?

Somewhere does them I've seen em just can't remember where :confused:
You buy the chassis and cage all as one piece.

your not the first. There is people who have done a 2" lift in there garage and then realised they cant get there motor back out! :lol:
 
When I had a galv chassis from Richards, I had them fit the mounts for the rear hoop prior to galvanising. They also gave me a set of corresponding feet to weld to the new cage. I left the rear diagonals off because I hadn't decided which type of cage I was going to fit, either one as you mention that mounts to the chassis and retains the load space, or those that are MSA compliant and mount to the chassis legs. In either case, it is only a small bit of welding and can be touched up with zinc paint.

You will normally find that the front hoop bolts to the bulkhead outrigger so that will help minimise welding on galv.

I drove my landy into the garage with no roof at all, fitted all the soft top frame/roll bar then drove out and took half the up&over door with me :rolleyes:

No matter how much weight i put in the back, I couldn't get it out until I put ratchet straps around the chassis/axles and cranked them down! If it needs to go in now, I remove the wheels/tyres and drive it in on a set of old steel rims :D
