Just renewed the road tax on my 87 90  , my pal reckons it will be free when it gets to 25 year old , is he right or was it the beer :pop2: ?

no he's not right, only cars pre 1972 are eligible for free tax. when it was originally introduced in 2001 it was going to roll forward every year so that a car stopped paying for road fund licence after 30 years but this was very quickly stopped when they realised how much revenue would be lost.

Aye it's ridiculous really. A 1972 motor is a "historic vehicle" but a 1973 one is not. To be honest the saving of a year's tax when spread across the total running cost of an old landy is insignificant. Nice not to have to stump up every year though.

Only a little smarter than the beer drinker ....

2001 eh?

Another poster that writes garbage on here.

its pre January 1973 so it can include cars from 1972

it was the budget in 1998

and it was only ever 25 years... not 30.
