reversing lights

hi everyone, ive just bought my first freelander, 2.0 diesel (bmw engine, so ime told), 51 plate and need a little help with a problem.
the reversing lights don't work, bulbs ok, fuse ok, so am assuming it must be the switch. can anyone tell me where its located on the gearbox and any advice on changing it

To confirm you have a BMW M47R engine you just need to look at the yellow handle of the dip-stick - on one side in small print it says - guess what? - BMW.

Auto or Manual?

If it's manual then you have a Getrag box and the reverse switch is screwed into the top of the casing.

As suggested search for pics, and anything else you need to know - vary rarely do we get a totally new '1st time we've heard that' type of question.

On the auto-box I think it's on the selector lever.
