Hi all

Our lass wants a reversing camera for our new disco 2. I have looked online and have found a number of options available but can't really find anyone recommending the best place to fit the camera! Anyone fitted one that can recommend a good place to get a full view and avoid general day to day driving dirt?

Also what's peoples thoughts on wireless or cabeled?

Rob

I'm looking at a 7" dash-mounted screen and possibly a Bluetooth camera, but mine is for our trailer and it's 8 metres away from the back of the Discovery.

Bluetooth should be fine for a car camera, the screen really wants to be visible but not so that it distracts the driver, so far on the left hand side of the dash, as long as your lady can assimilate the information.

I'm also interested in people's ideas as I'll be fitting a camera to ours very soon.

I think the OP meant the best place to mount the camera?

I would take inspiration from our disco friend Auf, look at this post

I like that fitment very neat. Select few round these parts have sticky fingers though so I doubt it would last long if I did the same.

The best location I have found, and where I currently plan to put ours, is using one of the smaller type cameras mounted within the 3rd brake light housing looking out and angled down.

Means its inside the car and less tempting to thieves, easier to route wiring too and within the sweep of the rear wiper so can still be used if the outside of the car gets mucky.

I have one, but admittedly it is just to hook up the horsebox, so it does face pretty much straight down to the towbar, but it above the number plate. The wiring is quite easy as it goes through the back door and comes out by one of the number plate lights. I clean it from time to time but it generally stays very clean.

I had one on a boxer van so no back door window, and as soon as you engaged reverse it was displayed on the rear view mirror.

It was mounted at the very top of the door inside it's own little concave. Think with fitting it was only £200-250 can't really remember. Was nifty though.

Hi I have just fitted a rear view camera on my Discovery 2 I got from e-bay and it was only about £35 it comes with a front screen and a camera for the rear, both the front tv screen and rear camera come with small transmitters on them so there is no need to run wires from the front to the back.the camera connects to the reversing light and the tv screen simply plugs into the cigar lighter. It does the job fine its a good picture and as they say it does what it says on the tin. I fitted the camera under the rear bumper

Mine is wireless, with a 7" clip on mirror mount. rear camera is just above towball on rear bumper and wired into reversing light wiring so as to come on when in reverse. The monitor is wired into the light above the mirror Only strange thing is the way it picks up shop & street cctv at times. I love it. This is the 3rd vehicle it's been on.

What a cracking idea for reverse light placement, I need decent light for parking at night. Will be copying your set up asap, sorry should also add that I have a wireless camera positioned @ bottom of tow bar. Keeps really clean and lines me up perfect for my Sankey and is less obvious. Screen is integral with cd/DVD player and camera comes on when reverse is engaged.
Cheers
