Return to Centre damper my experience

Terafirma by any chance 💩had to put 2 heavy duty exhaust clamps on one I fitted as the collar would not clamp and broke when tried to tighten it to stop movement !!! Utter 💩💩💩💩💩💩

I think the rtc damper is one of them things that people never thought they needed until they saw it advertised and being sheep they all have to buy one as it must be better, they are also the same people that buy anything for a defender so long as the description has the words heavy duty in it

Doesn't a lift have an effect on returning to centre?

Got 2" with bog std damper and rtc sort of half works

I took the damper off completely manual steering makes it a bit lighter and has never given problems at speed or off road

I took mine off to just to see if it might improve etc - much lighter steering - too car like - but no diffo to rtc.
Rather concerned about a catch u out kick back so re-fitted damper - feels better too!

Well, I'm going to dissent here and say I quite like my return to centre steering damper. it's been on for just over two years and it makes manoeuvring at urban driving speeds easier than with the previous damper, because you can get the wheels back to the straight ahead position much more quickly as you pull away from corners. So I have a hand free to get it up through the gears sooner. It's been worth it for me.

Just read this old thread with interest. I fitted an RTC steering damper to my 2005 110 SW about a year ago.
lt's been all good for me. The Defender is easier to manoeuvre at low speeds, while at higher speeds it seems no different.
When taking a corner on the road the steering has a better self centering action, making it easier to drive.
The spring has never moved although the tube has a little surface rust after 12,000 miles (now sprayed with grease and has got no worse)
