All,

I have a Y reg 110 and one of the very few things I miss in it is the
central locking (so useful with kids). Has anybody looked at retro fitting
one from a more recent 110? What kind of work and price does that involve?

there are plenty of cheap diy kits about from around £20 for 2 doors and not
stupidly hard to fit

Especially since the two pictures are the same... On the other hand, maplin
seem to only offer the 4 door version...

I liked the quote in the FAQ :-

A) Yes it can be used on a two door car.(just leave the two wire motors in
the box)

mind you the price of additional motors is a touch steep I wonder if they
would replace the Landy oem units without modding

Have you fitted one yourself? If yes, how did you pass the wires into the
doors? Also, my manual actuators are fairly stiff. Are the motors
powerful enough? In fact, are they actual motors? How do they fit around
the in place mechanical components? Would anybody have a manual for it?

Sorry Fred I still have that job to do on my disco last car I did CL on was
an XR3i and the fault was caused by a dimwit welding part of the loom ( not
recommended ) I gave away the spares when I sold the car. I've wired a few
door speakers and usual way is drill and grommit the door and feed a wire
through the a pillar coiled up to allow it to flex without damage ( wrap 5
or more turns round a pencil to make the coil ) you could probably get a
rubber boot to keep it looking neat similar to the one on the disco like
this

try a radio fitting specialist. The motors are pretty tough and will be
pulling the lock mechanism not the external handle linkage the ones I've
fitted just clip on to the internal handle linkage.

Can't see why not have a look at Richards post lower down, you may have to
drill a small hole in the lock switch to clip to but it seems to be do-able

What I thought about passing the wires to the doors. Not very clean.

Unfortunately, the gromit to "hide" the wires is not easily applicable to
defenders because of how it's done. You can't easily go directly through
the metal because the only bit accessible is the steel frame and it is
right against the door surrounds when the door is closed. So it has to go
through the lining and is then sticking out a bit. The ideal would be to
have the same thing that holds the gromit on the back door. At least
mechanically (and electrically) it looks easy enough.

Hmmmm... they say they developed te unit themselves especially for use
with a defender. Looks like they just order standard items elsewhere and
sell them at a slightly higher price. Sorry I didn't notice that. Just
for the records, I'm not in anyway linked to this company :)!

Or they indeed developed the product and sell it at a low price in large
volumes to people like maplin.

at £22 for a kit - I'd guess the easiest research would be to just do it :)

Well, the £22 kit does not include a 5th actuator and an extra one costs
about £9, but you are right, and I'll probably do that when I've got time.
