Considering purchasing a 300tdi discovery 1, but it was sold new without aircon. In my climate, it would be miserable without.

I’ve been looking trying to find all of the parts required. Here in the states I’ve found everything for under the hood, aside from wiring. I’ve tracked down the heater/aircon matrix for under the dash. Basically, I would just need all of the electrical bits, and I’m sure the actual temperature control unit on the dash is different?

Has anyone here ever done this? Can I source the wiring new?

Thanks

Hi and welcome,
I would assume that getting a bespoke system fitted instead of try to source all the bits would probably be
More cost effective, there are a number of companies in this country that will fit aircon to vehicles that haven’t
Had it fitted before, so once again I would assume you would have similar?
Or alternatively a good vehicle dismantlers might source all the parts including the wiring at a more sensible price,
I was trying to source a small part of the loom on my Discovery for the brake pad warning system and was quoted
£82 + VAT, I easily made one up for £10,

When they were new aircon was a dealer fit option, when the td5 was introduced landrover sold off the kits very cheaply. I got one and fitted it to my 300tdi, it took just over a weekend, I can't remember exactly what needed changing but I do remember the dash having to come out as did the heater box

That’s interesting, mine was an early 200tdi and definitely came from the factory already fitted, but cannot be sure of the later types,

I’m not sure which aftermarket system would even fit? All of the under dash units look huge.

Very interesting! It would be great to find one of those kits :)

It was brilliant value at the te and totally transformed the discovery, I have had a look for the instructions I got with it as I am sure I will have kept them but not had any luck so far. It did include a list of parts which would be very useful.

If you could somehow find that, it would be incredibly useful.

I dont expect that main dealer would have the facilities to fit AC on a new vehicle as the whole dash board would has to be removed to replace the heater matrix along with its electrical modifications and to engine and even behind the front grill.

So like the disco 300 series the 200s AC would have been an option and factory fitted on the assembly line.
0nly the top of the range ES, AC was a standard fitment on the 300 series, although the rear AC wasn’t.

My understanding is the kits were for new dealer stock vehicles that hadn't had aircon fitted at the factory so it could be fitted if a customer wanted it. The kit was very comprehensive and came with full instructions, several people were selling them off very cheaply in the late 90s.
