Hello..

I might have to change my transfer box as there's an annoying whining noise coming from it and I think if I keep driving it like it is, the transfer box will go..and might take the gearbox with it?

was wondering if anyone here as replaced their transfer box?
I had a look in the haynes and altough there's quite a lot of stuff to undo and get out of the way...it doesnt seem too bad....

but anyone done it on the driveway? or would it need to be lifted?

I have an ATV jack that I could use to drop the box down as I've used it before to drop engines out of bikes....so will probably make it easier as the box should be quite heavy..

btw, how can I find out which transfer box I have? the LT77 or the other one?

Hi JP,
If you're brave enougth to try this weather then it should be possible but I wouldn't want do do it myself, but then again I've just done the brake pads and wheel bearing on mine in 45mph winds so needs must i guess. Expect to take a couple of days and make sure you have all the tools and bits before you start and a mate is always a good idea.
Good luck if you decide to have a go. You'll be OK and if you get stuck, just ask on the site. Alternatively if you are anywhere near Peterborough I know a man who could do it for you.

easy with trolley jack and lots of bits of wood.

why do you need lots of bits of wood for ? - a bonfire to keep warm with ?

5x M10x150mm bolts with the heads cut off and slot cut in - undo the tranny to GB mounting bolts one by one and replace with one of the long studs, tighten using a big screwdriver in the slot you cut

when you've replaced all of the mounting bolts slide the tranny box away from the GB - use a strop through the footwells (or a tall jack) to lower it to onto the skate you've stolen from the bread delivery man

just rememeber the tranny box is heavy ish and the bulk of that is towards one side to it's a pain to balance

BoB....how much you want for the transfer?and is it in good working order?

i wont need the bits of wood to support as mine is an ATV jack..just like this:

so hopefully an easier task to do with the aid of this lift..

cheers Sean!!
i found something similar on another forum, but all the info is welcome!

I think I'm handy enough with a couple of spanners to do the job, but you know how it goes, always easier / more confident if a mate is around to double check whats going on..

when you put it back be carefull of bolt sizes as if you put wrong ones near intermediate transfer box gear=lockup
