Under my landy
I need to replace the drivers side front chassis leg as the front leaf point is now touching the top side of the chassis not the bottom :/ (the bottom is kinda crumbs)

Is it as easy as cutting out the dead section, buying a front chassis repair leg from Paddocks, removing the wing, etc. and welding on - or is it an engine lift?

Also - i assume 'right side' is drivers side and left is passengers, i mean it depends where you stand, but paddocks don't define that bit of useful info!

Thanks

Mike

Best to ask them just to be sure. You should be able to repair the chassis leg without removing the engine. If the chassis is that bad there are there problems elsewhere?

unfortunately if your landy is in such a state that a dumb iron has collapsed even doing "easy" things such as removing wings is likely to be quite time consuming, simply due to the amount of corrosion that WILL riddle it - if you are doing one then you might as well do the other as it won't be far behind, and as mentioned above, if you start pokeing around there's bound to be plenty more

that's the kinda job i've seen garages take days and days to do

there's some before and after pictures on this thread showing the state of a chassis that didn't have collapsed dump irons

Cheers, the rest of the chassis seems reasonably well patched. I am sure underneath the wonderful patchwork is absolutely nothing - but - what you can't see can't hurt you... or something.

I intend to 'pop' over to paddocks during tomorrows extended lunch break so i'll be sure to get the right side :) (or left)

I can feel a new chassis coming on in the future, but that would be accompanied by a Salisbury rear axle and 200tdi, and, well, i just don't have the money for that sort of work at present.

just had mine done!! bloke that did it managed without removing the wing and certainly didn't touch the engine lol;) removed bumper and front grille, steering rack and front wheels but that was it, but he did have the advantage of having her up on ramps tho . and we had both done because you might as well while you're there!! just don't get britpart  thats what he got sent first time and they were fooked, all bent and wouldn't match up:mad: all done now tho, cos me a fecking arm and a leg in labour so be prepared for a long job:p

Thanks:)

I got the parts from paddocks at lunch time (along with a brake overhaul kit in the hope i may one day actually stop when i press that strange middle peddle)

If i can get away with not taking the wing off that will be a massive help, though i don't have anything as useful as ramps to lift her up.

If i'm allowed out to play i'll start stripping her down tonight - I've got just over a week of evenings to get it done :)

Thought i'd share a few pics

Did all the prep work then got a guy in to Weld it up for me - cost me £35 for the guy and it took him about 1 1/2 hours. (most of the cost was in getting him from Birmingham to mine)
