I cant fit the little metal insert inside the bracket on the axle. Should I be thinking about grinding off a mm or so?

If not, is there a technique I'm missing?

I would be tapping the bracket open on the axle if it where mine, but only if it's a bit. I have just replaced my front ones with genuine bushes and had to tap them open a bit and they where genuine that was in there already .:D

As 200 said, tap the bracket with a hammer. I also have the habit of easing the arm into it's slot using a small bottle jack to keep the weight off my arms.

Decent sized bolt, wind a nut down to the bolt head, stick the bolt up in between the brackets and wind the nut out, then use two spanners and force the brackets apart.

splay mounts

they need to be a tight fit in the mounts so splay then tighten to FT then they will clamp the tube nice.

if you grind the tube so it fits easy then youll have a nice knock !

I've just polybushed my D1 200tdi and had to splay the brackets on the axles slightly. also used the bushing grease supplied on the face of the bushes then used my bottle jack to slide them home. the grease stopped the bush crumpling up and the jack made it so much easier to align the bolt holes

Ok, but this seems like quite a log way to have to hammer the bracket wider. Its about 4mm difference and the bracket must be 4 to 5 mm thick steel.

Old one against new one.

Not sure if I'd get a knock, not until the polybush wears down anyway. The polybush itself is a snug fit inside the bracket, so not just the steel tube that touches the bracket.

Don't know what model you have but I think there are two sizes of radius arms, narrow and wide. Think the change was 94 but could (probably) be wrong. Possibility you have 'narrow' radius arms but bought a 'wide' set of bushes

Feck.

Thanks Kwakerman. The folk at Paddocks did check the chassis number with me when I ordered. Mines and MA chassis number, they said these were the right ones. Guess I'll call them tomorrow.

Just measured the parts that I posted the picture of, the short one is 49mm and the long one 53mm. According to my cheapo tape measure anyway.

Did mine today had to shave 4mm off to get them to fit, what a job my mate made two dollies to us on his press once thT was done the bushes flew out and in.

Well, if you discussed it with them and bought the size they recommended, then they should change it for you, shouldn't they? Hope you get something that fits eventually.
