I am attempting to replace my Philips stereo in my 1993 Discovery, but find that there are no speaker leads connected to the back of the Philips stereo :(

Does the line output from the Philips head go to an amplifier or controller? If so, where is this located? Can I by-pass it? I would rather avoid re-wiring the speakers, if possible.

Cheers.

On my '91 disco (same model 200tdi), All the wires converged behind the radio. The only problem I found was getting a cd/mp3 player short enough to fit and like sitting at a silly angle.

as ian say's the only problem i had was finding a radio that liked the same location as the factory fitted..

i replaced mine with a sony xplod md/cd multi..

the cd changer is in the origonal location and needed no modification the radio however needed a 45o block replacment for the wiring harness..otherwise it stuck up like a erm i can't say!

when ever i go offroad or laning i remove the multichanger as stated in the handbook and the md player head unit is fine as md's don't seem to jump as much..

however the dash mounted radio control's are useless once replaced but other than that i changed nothing with the main vehical's wiring harness as you can buy coupling block's for most marks avalible.

I got rid of the Philips head/changer and shoved a Sony Gigamex unit in. Straight swop. Only thing is the rear subs dont work without messing about and I cant be bothered and it sounds good even without. It has CD/Aux in/ changer input/Tuner and you can play MP3/Wav discs or remove the front panel and connect it to your USB and download 1GB of music into it. The only regret I have is not waiting and getting one with bluetooth.

yes I think they are, on a 300 from what I remember seing the cd player is in the dash, and on a 200 its just in front of the hi/lo lever ;)

Thanks for your responses.

The head Philips radio/cassette is directly in front of the difflock selector, but there are no speaker cables connected to this unit. There is a line out connection and, I assume, this goes through and amplifier or controller to which the speakers are connected. It is this unit I am trying to locate.

Cheers.
