Two parts to this query.

1. I have a n reg 300 very tidy car very little rust but the two sills need replacing/repair. I have been told to just write it off which is not acceptable. What I am looking for is someone who will give a sensible quote for the work. I am in east London/Essex.

How much should I expect ?

2 I am about to replace the brakes shoes and have noticed that the discs are pretty bad so I am considering getting new ones. £50 from ebay. But to remove the shoes I will need a socket to fit the star dive bolt. What is this properly called and size so I can buy one to make sure I can free the bolt before I shell out money. They have been in place for 18 years and I anticipate they are going to be hard work.

Hi,

I really would not write the car off unless its a complete mess, I have to do my outer sills this summer and I'm going to do it myself, it looks quite simple to do, I'm no welding expert but Disco's are really easy to work on making it very easy to do (unlike the bloody MG I have). I'd suggest you goto a small independent garage to get a quote.

Get yourself a toolkit from Halfords with the spanners you need, its going to be cheaper in the long run to get a good kit you will use it.
