Repairing Windscreen hinge posts

My windscreen hinge posts are quite severely rotten, along with the area around the vents, would it be best to rebuild the hinge posts a flat at a time or has anyone done this before successfully. I'm guessing it is just made originally from a piece of square steel with the hinge tube welded to it?

Obviously there are bulkhead repair panels but none of them have the hinge post on them.

do you use the hinges? if not would a fixed defender bracket be better to fit?

Quite possibly, I live in Cornwall and love the idea that if I get a good summer, the roof and windows will be coming off. I'm probably just dreaming but I think it would really stand out.
