Dear crazy Land Rover people,

I'm new to Land Rover ownership and, to be honest, don't really know my arse from my elbow when it comes to welding work. My new 110 has two heavily rusted doors, I'd like to get them fixed before they disintegrate!

I've been told these guys are excellent at door refurb...

but before I spend my hard earned I wondered if anyone could offer advice on how (and how easy) it might be to do myself?

All thoughts most welcome!

First of all welcome to the agony and the ecstacy of owning a Landy.

As for your doors. Depends if its the door frame or door skin you are refering to. If the skin has seperated from the frame along the bottom and is flapping about, forget about welding it. If doors are that bad, probably better to source replacements.

I used 3mm chequer plate on my door bottoms, great for replacing rotten or pitted skins or can be placed over them. I coated the back of the plate with etch primer and then a skin of waxoyl. I riveted them on, but I also used Tec 7 sealant round the top and sides. I left the bottom open so anything like water can find a way out if necessary. Hope this helps.
