Repair or replace bulkhead

Just wondering what were peoples opinions on what's easier. My door pillars are in sore need of replacement and its starting to get a little thin around the vents as well. Am I easier leaving it in situ and welding new parts on, if so does anyone have a walkthrough talkthrough kinda thing? Or just replacing the whole bulkhead? To me replacing it seems to be more hard work

When I started to investigate the small bit of rust on my bulkhead I found way more behind the dash. It may well be worse than you think.

I've patched mine for now for the MOT but it's the next big job on the list.

Surprisingly a lot of mine seems solid. Small rust hole under heater and at the vent above it, also inside is rusted a bit. Both door pillars are pretty much gone but the rest seems to be perfectly fine. For now

Have you taken the dash off yet? I had a small hole under the heater, turned out to be a large hole!

Yeah but I might do just to give it another check. Right now I'm just concerned about the door pillars as they're bad enough to constitute an mot fail I guess.

Anyone give advice on changing these? Or is it just a case of dash off, cut off the old ones and weld new ones on? Would I leave the wings in place to help line them up or is it easily if I take them off?

I've only done the pillars with the bulkhead off the car as we were rebuilding the whole thing. Like that we could get around it with a grinder and welder easier than in situ anyway. ours should have been replaced really but its all good now and nigh on perfect!

We just cut out the bits we didn't want and patched the new ones in. Everything is good and straight. I like to think most things are repairable given the time and patience, and new ones can be pretty pricey!

We also did the feet of the pillars where they bolt to the chassis, but the parts we ordered weren't genuine so the they were about an inch too tall (had the holes for the hinges in them already) so none of the body fitted correctly afterwards. its a pain in the arse when you go to fit the wings and rad after putting all the engine and wiring in, only to realise the bulkhead is at fault!

I'll probably be buying bits from yrm so hopefully they'll be good quality and made to correct specs

I repaired mine, took forever but coated less than a new one, do you have the time to fix it or enough money to replace, which is more valuable

When I bought mine both corners had just been replaced in order to get it through the mot. It seemed great until I removed the dash to clean it up. Everything was rusted through. A well known company bought it for £25 - it's probably been repaired, galved and fitted to someone's pride and joy.

Moral of the story: check behind the dash and fit a galv one.

Long run I'd love a galv chassis and bulkhead but in the meantime ill patch the feck out of it till it can be patched no more. Repairing it is probably easiest for me at the moment, mot is in December so I've got time. Just need to know the best way to go about it
