hi guys,
My series 3 needs a repaint.
Last time I got someone to do it but they made a bit of a mess of it. Thinking I might do it my self. What is everyone's views on repainting with a roller and bush?
Also where is the best place to get primers and paint etc?
Looking for marine blue colour.
Any help would be great.

I got my paint from paddocks and gave it a single coat using brush and roller. Have a look at my rebuild thread and you'll see. The finish isnt too bad, going to flat it back, give it another coat and then polish it. Mine was the first time we had ever attempted to paint a car and it came out ok. I would say a decent brush and foam roller helps a lot (got ours from wilkinsons and found them to be superb for giving a good finish. A few parts of mine are pretty close to a spray finish because of the switch to these rollers/ brushesfrom other makes

HI what you need is a fine pile 4" roller I use harris varnish rollers, you have got to give them a good wash in clean water first to remove any loose pile and let them dry for 24hrs.
If you have a bare ally you must give it a coat of etch primer first then a coat of undercoat and two or three coats of gloss lightly rub down with 1200 wet and dry between gloss coats.i use the paint that paddock sells(HMG paint) and it is very good, one other thing when you have finished preparing the body work you need to go over it with panel wipe to get off any grease or oil before you start painting.
good luck Celtic.

I used a painters pad and a brush for the hard to get at bits...got the paint from Paddocks its marine blue...its was made by a very well know paint maker...HMG and was polyurethane...I bought 1 ltr only used about half of it...trick is to thin it down...I just used std turps or white spirit if your from down south,

Near as good a job as spraying, and very little masking up req,

Still using the same can for touching up today.

Nick
