I am finally going to repaint my 90 pickup after I sort a few minor bits and pieces but don`t know which way to go with the chequer plate. Its on the bonnet, bottom of the doors and bottom of the quarters, as its all riveted on I cant simply remove it so at first was thinking go black, the rest of the motor will be Windjammer blue, but think this may be too much then thought paint it all the same colour as the rest of the motor. If you cant remove it I would certainly paint the lower door strips body colours as will make them more subtle. I have black on my wings and bonnet and I quite like the contrast, I also would not remove it form these places as it allows me to stand on them with no issues and throw tools on the wind while working in the engine bay so serves a practical purpose rather than being for looks. At the end of the day it is persona choice but I don't think body colour on wings and bonnet would look correct whereas along the side I think it would make the chequer less obvious.

I would disagree, I think body colour chequer plate makes it look like a shoddy repair job. I think you need a definite contrast i colours. Just depends if Matt black or natural suits your colour best. Just my opinion though.

Looking at your pic again, I would go black chequer plate to match your black roof!

Just drill out the rivets and remove it.
You will either find that nothing is amiss or that the panels and door frames are rotten.
There is probably nothing wrong with the bonnet.
Sort out the panels and doors, if you like the plate (or if nothing is wrong) simply rivet it back on again after painting.
If you don't want it simply sikoflex a small piece of alluminium plate to the back of the hole and apply some P38, sand, then paint..

I think i might remove them and then decide what to do, would prefer not to have the side one`s and maybe black the wing tops and bonnet one
