Hi All

I have a reoccurring battery fault on my 67 series 2A, The battery would be fine and then i would go to start her and it would be dead. I traced the fault to the voltage regulator and she has run fine since (approx 4 weeks). Now i went out to her today and went to where i was going, when i went to start her she was dead and the earth from the top of the engine was hot. I have two earths on the engine, one from the cylinder head and another from the bell housing near the starter onto the chassis..

Can anyone advise me on what to check as i am running out of ideas, the dynamo is good i had that checked at the same time as the voltage regulator, could it be a cable earthing?

Cheers
Rob

Hot earth cables mean poor connections. FOR SURE!
Take them off, clean all up, Vaseline, and put back.

Sounds like the cut-out in the regulator may not always be cutting out when you stop the engine, which means the battery WILL discharge through the dynamo. This is not good for the battery or the dynamo.

Sort it soon and remember, you can fit a big diode into the battery cable that will act just as well as the cut out.

Maplins ... you need a diode that will handle 15 volts and 40 amps or so.
Probably cost 25p.
