how do i go about removing the wiper switch on a series3?
ive narrowed down my wiper problem to the switch but i cant work out how to get the thing off to either adjust or replace it.... - any advice?

thanks!

there should be a metal ring with two slots around the wiper switch, use a screwdriver in one slot to loosen it, unscrew the bolts at the side of the fascia panel, pull the panel off and unscrew the ring then the switch should just come out.

pic of my dash panel off, also shows the slotted ring around the switch

You have to take the knob off first by pushing something down the little hole in its side. The slotted retaining ring can be a little tight. Mine was and took a bit of shifting. Not a problem if your replacing it coz your bound to ruin it. I know I did.

yep i have been trying to shift the retaining ring with the two slots in it but it wont go! - ill see if i can make up a tool of some sort to do it!
just couldnt see any other way of it coming off, and wondered if it was actually meant to come off that way....and i dont want to wreck it cause if i can get it working with a bit of adjustment it would save me a bit!...

I had to cut the slotted ring off mine as it was corrode on good and proper. Oh and don't be surprised if the button you have to push in is stuck solid and if you do get the button in and the ring off you may have a tug of war to play to get the knob off the shaft. Ask how I know this lol I spent days soaking it in WD40 and anything else I could get my hands on. You can get spare reproduction knobs on ebay.

ive made myself a tool, its primitive but works well - and it didnt cost 27 pounds!!!
i cant seem to move anything in that hole in the side of the switch, im thinking i might have to slice it off and glue it back on...but will give it another go...

ok so i managed to push the thing inside the hole in the switch down a bit, but not enough to slide it off, and in the process on trying to pull it off i broke it but its glueable so will do that when i put it back...took apart the switch as well, i dont know if anyone knows if this is what its meant to look like??would appreciate any opinions on cleaning it out as well....!

never looked inside one, the connections aren't very strong on the back btw, I broke one of the washer ones so had to wire the washer pump to a press switch as the only replacement "proper" wiper switches were £40 plus which I thought was a bit rich

Made a retaining ring removal tool by simply filing down a small piece of pipe the correct diameter.
Is yours the 2 speed wiper? - they are rare to find

yeh ok, not worth buying the tool when you can make it!!!
nope just the one speed....

yeh i broke mine a while back, so will probably do the same thing as you, i did see a whole unit on paddock spares that might work.... - http://www.paddockspares.com/579006-wash-wipe-switch-s3-single-speed.html

Finally went to a local land rover specialist and found the small green bit that goes on the back of the wiper switch, was an original lucas part as well, for $16.....so was pretty pleased to get it at that price and original, considering half of the guys products are ****part....
so i put it back together and it goes fine again!! - i used the tape because glueing it up would have been a pain in the arse if it stopped working again....
