Trying to swap my knackered power steering pump for a working one.
Everywhere I've seen has said remove three bolts from the underneath and then remove belts... Mines got 4 bolts, one which is shared by the alternator. And doesn't wanna budge anyway!

I'm not a mechanic, just enjoy giving things a go and wanted to check I wasn't going to #### anything up by removing it with the bigger belt attached...

Loosen the bolts on the pully with the belt on to stop the pully spinning, then remove the belt, remove the pully and you'll see the bolts holding the pump on, take the hoses off first from underneath.

You've lost me on the alternator sharing bolts tbh.

Thanks, got it off now!
When I saw somebody called 'pumpy' had commented I knew there'd be some decent advice lol :D

I say I've got it off, there's still the hose attached to it by a 17mm nut which is stuck fast... Left it overnight as I ran outta time!

My 'new' second hand pumps covered in oil, what's the best way to clean it up.. Haven't got any brake cleaner or anything like that... Petrol and rag?

make sure you're trying to undo the actual pipe and not the casting bit, it's easier to get it off before you remove the pump so there's something solid to go at.

Here's a pic of my old one with the pipes disconnected to give you a clue...

I guess you bleed it the normal way, blow through with a straw!!!!!
Only joking, turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times and that should do the trick!

As Rick says, the system should be self bleeding, if you've still got some air in after lock to lock a few times you can bleed it from the nipple on top of the power steering box, best done with the steering straight ahead and the engine running, top up the fluid, use a ring spanner on the nipple, it'll be under pressure so don't stand there with your face over it!
