I have got it all timed up on number one and stripped ready to remove it to get it checked and overhauled if required as the check engine warning keeps coming on and its looses power...diagnostic equipment tell me that the engine speed needle sensor is faulty which I believe is in the pump...

Just about to take the pump off but not sure if I now need a special tool to push the pump off the sprocket and does the sprocket need to be locked into position....?

Has anyone ever done one or can give me some advice ...

Regards

mal

The needle lift sensor is in the third or forth injector - it provides info to the ecu about the actual start of injection. It uses this with info from the crank sensor to set the pump advance for whatever the engines current situation is.If you think its in the pump carry on.BTW the way to test the needle lift sensor is via live data on Testbook,or a scope.

needle lift sensor is in the forth injector and is a common failing, if you do want to remove the diesel pump you need the proper tool which holds the timing gear in place and pushes the pump out the back. you can get the tool of ebay for 20 quid.

thanks you were right.......I have put the pump back together bought a number 4 injector (£165 inc vat) and replaced the glow plugs as one had packed in. It now starts first time every time even when hot and runs great with no check engne warning light......once again thanks for the advise....great site !!
