Greetings oh sage like people, I am trying to remove the Auto Shift from a Disco - the T Bar type with the button on the side.

I've removed the top cover, removed the circ clip and then the shaped piece below it.

I now have run out of ideas as to what to do next, looks like I need to remove the button assembly, the slider seems to be captured by something.

Any one taken this off before and can help.

Cheers, Rob.

I think I may have cracked it.

Simply get some long nose plyers and loosen the nut on top of the shaft.

I thought you had to remove the button on the right, but you do not.

My 90 had an auto box from a Range Rover Classic fitted with the button underneath the handle. I wanted to change it to the one from a Disco with the button on the side.

The problem now is that the inner shaft is slightly bigger on the Classic than on the Disco - so out with the drill to modify bits - it's never straightforward is it.....

When Alton and Cockroft came home after splitting the atom, they were treated like heros.

I come in after fitting the Disco gear shift and all I get it 'oh'.

Some people have no idea of perspective.

lol, I know what you mean. I removed the fuel tank and cut out the whole rotten boot floor, scratch made a new from steel fitted it,welded it in, rebuilt both rear wheel arches in steel and welded them in,drill wire brushed the whole car underneath, epoxied it , stone chipped it. epoxied the new boot inside and sprayed it and refitted the fuel tank all on my drive in three days. First welding job on a car and big job ever.

Any parade, any fanfare no!! lol :p

FOOKIN KNACKERED I WAS!
