remove EGR and fit de-cat front pipe

Hi new on here only posted one thread befor have just bought myself a Discovery 300tdi and am on doing some welding for the MOT just sills and inner wings etc
I was talking to a friend of mine and he has removed the egr valve and fitted a de-cat front pipe he claims it gives his Discovery more get up and go and better fuel ie more MPG
I understand this is a common mod just wondered what any one else has found after doing this Mod

i doubt much better but still better removed
