SITUATION

Have both keys to my 1999 P38 but neither operates remote locking, both operate OK using key in the door, alarm/immobiliser lights go on/off when locking and unlocking - sometimes the alarm sound activates when locking (Beep Beep) but not often

ACTION

Purchased (off ebay) remote fob repair kits. This did not work. Both fobs display red light when buttons pressed but car does not respond.

THE NEXT MOVE

Buy a new key from Main Dealers?? Prepared to do this but what will required to be done. Researching forum some members state that there is no need for the dealer to re Programme new key because when new key placed in ignition the car will do the rest. Is this true? Will a new key automatically make my remote/ alarm work or will everything have to be reprogrammed by Landrover at great cost.

Your help in this matter will be mosy appreciated.

Regards

Dave

If you have 2 keys that don't work why do you suspect the keys? Have you checked the RF receiver is in situe and connected?? Stand right next to the rear offside window, hold the key near the glass and try them, it's possible the aerial has been disconnected due to battery drain problems. It could just be a matter of re-synching them. Your owners manual will explain how to do this.
I certainly would not entertain buying another key without making some checks on the system.

Thanks Datatek - I have stood where you suggested and nothing happened. The red lights on both remotes blinked and as I continued to press the buttons the blinks got repeatedly faster but no response from vehicle. I am going to study the manual and then I will PM you. Dave

Thanks to expert assistance from Datatek, problem sorted. My RF reciever was disconnected. After resynch of keys both remotes work. Now all I have to work out is .......Why was the reciever disconnected in the first place
