Hello all,

Uncles got a 97 HSE. Phoned me last night to say handset is not working-he had the batteries changed-but it will not unlock the car remotely and he says no light is coming on on the handset. Obviously he cannot start the car. He's had his car for about three years and has no spare remote!!!

If the remote is broken-does the car have to be taken to a dealer to have a new fob coded and what are his other options?

Regards

Steve

PS-I'm glad I've got a spare.

No light coming on on the fob suggest batteries are in the wrong way round or there is corrosion on the contacts. Get the fob to function and you should be OK.
New fobs are stealer only apparantly, but no need to take the car in methinks:D

Here we go again......new fobs are dealer only parts. Produce your log book and preferably take I.D. with you as well.
The dealer cannot reprogramme the fob or repair it. They will not send it away for repair/reprogramming. Programming is carried out on new keys only by Huf (Manufacturers) in Germany..
In a nutshell, if a fob is broken, it's a new one.
Check that two good quality batteries have been fitted correctly and the battery cover fitted correctly.

Hi
be carefull, that happened to mine last week and the stealers told me i needed a new door latch, car running now but has many faults that werent there before. Stealers blamed age of car but still charged me £225.41 for new door latch

this all sounds strange, I have 1999 HSE,the guts fell out of the fob, but it still starts on the key?

Strange that...Mind you I have just a normal key (No fob attached) which I got cut and that will unlock & start the car. Probably because I had the alarm and immobiliser functions disabled in the BECM made a difference!!!!

I have only had this one for a couple of weeks ,got it cheap for when the missus here, so don't really know any history, but when the fob was intact, and pressed to lock the red light would come on but did not lock the car?

Thanks for all your help.

On taking the key apart the metal contact on the side of the battery holder had come adrift-got it back on and working. Popped it back to Uncle re-synchronized and all working.
Thaks

Steve

Hi mate, what you could try, if you haven't already, firstly check the batteries are in correctly, sounds obvious, but common! If the batteries weren't replaced within one minute, you could try this- If the vehicle is locked, press the unlock button, unlock the vehicle using the key. If it's unlocked, press the lock button, then lock using the key. Should reset the fob, if this doesn't work, you will need to go to the dealer for a new key-don't forget the documents! It will come programmed to the vehicle and cost around £100. Hope that helps!!!:D

RemoteKey I beleive they are called made me up a Genuine Land Rover key to replace my old one and a backup spare which is their own brand
