Hello anyone who reads this, I’ve just been very lucky to be gifted a 2003 disco 2 with100k miles as the place I work in are upgrading, basically I understand that this is not the best model of disco or the mostreliable but it’s been given to me so I’m not going to complain. I was wondering ifanyone has a straightforward list of thing Ican modify to increase reliability... any advice at all would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just to stick up for the D2; its the best looking Discovery, very good on and off road, a brilliant motorway cruiser, comfy and easy to drive, tows 3.5t, has 7 seat capabilities and huge load carrying capacity. Mine hasnt been unreliable for its age and they are easy to fix if you invest in a Hawkeye or Nanocom.
Chassis is fixable if not too far gone. Patch it or do a rear third replacement.
Its a vehicle of its age and i think because there are still lots about people for get they are all 15yrs plus old. Its no modern car and running one requires almost the approach of running a classic car, to some extent.
If you watch the original launch video on Youtube it will gee you up a bit !

I forgot to answer your question; find and kill all rust on body and chassis with converter and suitable paint, put fully synth oil in the td5, buy a set of bags if its on air and replace them, change ACE oil if it has it, buy a Hawkeye, check your pads and discs for sticky caliper and replace if so, check ecu loom for oil, and last but by no means least, stop all water getting into the car. This last bit is my top tip for trouble free ownership as water can play havoc with electrics. Lots on here about sealing gutters, screen and scuttle, plus sort sunroofs.
