Reduced efficiency + warning light

My Range rover 3.6 TDV8 is a 10 plate being the L322 model. What I get most every day is a reduced efficiency warning on the dash with the little red or orange warning triangle. But when you press OK to clear it it clears and then stays off for a while but can re-appear at any time.
When I first go to start up in the morning there are no warning messages displayed on the dash panel, so am I to think that this is just a little annoying fault or is it the start of something more serious.
Any ideas much appeciated.
 
I haven't got a plug in tester for it my old one doesn't seem to work on this model, what tester kit can be bought for this model or do I need to go to a dealer.
 
Latest upset now today the engine check light will not go out with the little triangle warning . I gues it’s serious now

Can't remember offhand which one does yours, but there are some fairly recent discussions, in this forum, on them.
I'd try a specialist auto-electrician or specialist indy for the right tool. If you have breakdown cover, you could even try them.
 
Check your battery is absolutely 100 percent and your alternator is charging properly at 2000rpm with all lights and what not on.
 
Thanks for your replies the battery is brand new (heavy duty) 2 weeks ago. May try the green flag breakdown anything is worth a try.
 
Thanks for help and yes it probably was reduced performance rather than efficiency. The wife drives it more than me so just listening to her report. I have Green Flag so will bell them tomorrow.
 
The check engine is only amber warning does that mean I can still drive it? It comes up with reduced performance when driven with tthe check engine light on.
 
Ok the very nice man from Green flag came to rescue me (outside my house). He put his scan thing in and it read fault code P0405-21 which he said was the EGR valve. He has reset it and the fault has not returned yet, do I assume that it was a gliche or should i get a new egr valve on order? Ideas please, and brill one about using rescue, I wouldn't have thought of that.
 
With my fail code P0405-21 points to the EGR valve but which one, I believe I have 2 on my 3.6 TDV8 engine?

I have seen the post written by member Henry_b and see that it's not the job for the faint hearted I would't be able to do that myself so I must get it to a dealer, risky and expensive I know!!

Can I just double check? You've been a member of this site for 10years and have had Range Rovers over the last 9yrs? Yet, you are posting like a newbie, as well as thinking of going to a dealer?
Have we not done our job? Or have you just not taken lessons on board?

Yes I have had a Range Rover for over 10 years but I am physically not able to do the easiest job on it with my arthritis and dodgey back. I have to rely on other people looking after my cars. I like to know what’s going on so I don’t get ripped off. Sorry that I’m not the active member that you seem to expect. I just hope you don’t get old and not able to do the things you used to do. Please don’t attack me you don’t know my situation. If I sound like a newbie so what, I thought this forum was for everybody not just top notch mechanics!
