Got some good quality recovery eyes of the "D" type, with 4 bolt holes per eye. I realise that they are fitted through the bumper bolt holes in the chassis, but as there are only 2 each side on my Series 3, am I missing something or is it simply a matter of drilling 2 extra holes to suit? Normally I would do this as a matter of course, but if, as I hope, I am getting a galv chassis, I don't want the first thing I do to be drilling holes in it, unless that's what you have to do, in which case I'll get some Galvafroid or something.

Mine has the 4 holes, but the extra 2 are in the bumper not the chassis. Worth taking a look at someone who has them fitted. Mine has the lifting eyes on the chassis / bumper bolts.
Found this pic:

Ta. I would want all 4 bolts through the chassis, I think. But that may be me being too belts and braces. I'll keep my eye open for as many pics of installation as I can.

I don't think you can fit all 4 in the chassis as the top is not flat. The mil lifting eyes go on the 2 bumper bolts. There are four eyes but a 4 leg sling is rated at 1/2 load each point so that makes them SWL 1 ton each and that is double (an approximation) what a pull should take (lifitng vs pulling)

Fair point. Think I'll drill bumper for the 2 fwd holes and back bolts with a spreader plate. Main stress in towing will be the rear 2 holes trying to tear out of the chassis, so I'll be happy with that set up.

That’s the same setup as I have. Two through the bumper/chassis mounting holes and two additional holes drilled through the front of the bumper with a spreader plate on the other side. Never had any problems, always use a yoke to both for being recovered, but I never get the series “properly” stuck so have not used fully in anger with snatch type recovery etc.

Thanks. I think if it gets stuck that bad that your set up wouldn't be strong enough, I'd be in plenty of trouble already! Main use is going to be around shunting trailers and hauling out other kit that's stuck in the mud/snow. Nothing too challenging, hopefully.

Just out of curiosity (and being nosy) what is the rusty piece of angle iron in the bottom right for, is that a numberplate mount?

Yeah, number plate bracket. A new shiny stainless one from YRM arrived yesterday, so it'll be replaced soon.

The D rings don't fit with the lifting eyes and bumperettes so I have a pair of lifting eyes bolted through the bumper in line with the chassis ends. 1/4" plate doublers in the inside.
