Hi all

I have been rebuilding my 90 defender and it was a vehicle used on the shoot i work on. All thats left of the vehicle at the moment is chassis axles gearbox and engine. The back has all been rebuilt and im getting towards the gearbox as istarted from the back is it worth taking the engine and gearbox out to clean as they are absolutely filthy with oil and dirt im not the best mechanic in the world and am a bit worried about a few things at the moment eg wiring loom things like that.

Any advice please.

If you have the equipment & space to do it, it's worth removing for a clean. I've spent time underneath mine trying to clean the years of crap off it to find leaks, it's not pleasant, and i'd rather remove the whole lot and do it standing up than on your back with **** falling all over you.

Thankyou for your advice i think when i start putting parts back together there will be more room would it be possible to take the whole engine and gear box out as a whole unit with a hoist.
