Hello all,

As some of you know I just bought a new L322 (2005) pre facelift (ish) :)

Anyway im systematiclaly going through bits that were broke, so far sorted the damage to the bumper got a new one off ebay locally in the same colour including 1 parking sensor that I believed to be broke for £50! Bargain. So thats done, managed to suss the passenger seat not working to a faulty switch pack, was all set to buy one when I thought id just pull it apart and see if there was anything obvious, couple of dry looking joints on the connector for the power, desoldered all of them and then cleaned em up relfluxed em then re soldered and whaddya know it works again! So thats all good. Next thing im moving onto is the Rear wiper motor, basically its just inoperable at the moment. I dont have much resistance to speak of when i try to manually move it and there is power at the connector when i tested with meter. What I wanted to know is does anyone know which terminals id have to supply with voltage to test the motor itself? I do suspect a faulty motor to be honest but at £150 I wanna be sure. When I took of the interior plastic trim that surrounds the motor its full of brown rusty water looking stains so im suspecting frozen pipe that has at some point burst and soaked the motor which wont have done it any good but best to be 100% sure.

One other thing is that although the motor doesnt work wouldnt the jet still spray water out? As it doesnt at the moment but I thought maybe the ECU that controls all this would not tell it to spray if the motor was faulty??

Thats it for now next thing is get the Fuel Burning Heater to work before the real cold weather sets in, just had a look in the boot compartment and it seems I already have the receiver fitted and plugged in but I never got a remote so I just ordered one of eBay brand new for £20 seemed like a bargain. I did try the timed climate via the dash computer screen but it just seems to vent and not fire up the heater then again ive read it needs to be >5 degrees??? Anyway ill deal with that once i get to it.
Cheers

Grab RAVE as it has the Electrical Schematics and connector pin outs....

land rover rave technical system

Mine is knackered too, but it can wait till may 2013 for the MoT...!!!

The Water jet is known to gum up and get blocked....when you take the high level unit off the top you see the workings and gubbins....

FBH - no idea I have a petrol model....

>5degC is for the AC Ventilation part of the HEVAC - the computer timed settings is for fresh air ventilation only IIRC - the FBH is operated remotely using a remote key fob like thing...I don't think it is automatic....

Again RAVE has the Owners Handbooks in it too, so it may say so in there....

Yeah I already have the rave manuals mate cheers. Didnt find what I wanted in there though will try again. theyre not the easiest to navigate. Ans as I say I have just ordered the remote for the FBH so see how that goes.
Thanks again

As attached....

To me with my limited electrical knowledge....the Power feed to the Motor is from Fuse 10 (rear fuse box) through the red and white wire to the Wiper Motor....Earth is the Brown 2.5mm wire and the switch for the motor is the Blue wire.....

The switch is basically just a signal to the rear wiper ECU to do something....

If you have a signal from the Blue 0.35mm wire to earth when you operate the switch, this proves the switch on the stalk is fine...

If you get power on the Red/White 2.5mm wire to earth - this proves the wiring to the motor unit is fine....if both of these check out - the motor unit is fecked!!

Aquiesce, for what its worth i've had the same problem with my P38, the rear wiper was in my case seized solid, turned out that the spindle had seized in the casing and with a liberal spray of penetrating fluid and a gentle working - it freed off and works to this day. Also on my l322, the wash was not playing as far as I had been told, so as I needed to replace the rear wiper I took the panel off and had a look. Could see no obvious problems and so just hung on the wash button.... eventually rewarded with a jet across the window. Seems to me that they either drain down alot or the pumps are slightly on the weak side to push water all the way to the back. Hope you get it sorted.

for the washer pipe there's a non return valve in the flexi pipe where it connects to the rear wiper motor it gets clogged up its easy to get to bits and clean out thats where mine was blocked.

The seals on the rear wiper motor have a habit of failing so the wiper gear box fills up with water and siezes up. I saw a write up which suggested you could take the gearbox apart and replace the seals and unsieze the wiper gearbox if you motor has not burn out.
