That is the classic colour for Fields. If you google Field Spaniel, you will find they are a separate breed to cockers, springers etc... They are listed as an endangered native breed - less than 50 puppies a year. Before her, we had a working cocker and before that a springer. Both beautiful dogs, but Mabel is much more chilled out.

I would say that they are similar to show springers, but very particular personalities. Not many people are aware of them. Apparently they were originally bred as “gun dogs for ladies”?!?
Anyway - I will get in trouble for taking up Landyzone with “spaniel talk”?!?

Unfortunately it was quite badly corroded due to water ingress from the washer system. Could not find a new unit anywhere. Had a look on ebay to try and find a replacement only to see sellers trying to get between £300.00 and £400.00 for a second hand part (which might still be leaking internally). As many of you may know the early L322 electrics are based on the BMW E39 5 Series, this led me to think that some of the electrical components are probably similar to other BMW models of this period. Sure enough after some research, I found that the rear wiper motor dimensions and connections are the same as the E46 3 Series Compact, which was much easier to obtain. The mounting bracket / gear cover however is different but this can easily be swapped over. Before refitting the original cover, I replaced the o-ring that sits inside the plastic water inlet where the wiper spindle locates . After refitting to the vehicle and trying it out I found the wiper parked to the right instead of correctly parking to the left, otherwise it worked fine. There is a magnet in the internal plastic gear which I moved 180 deg to the unused opposite slot to correct this problem. The magnet must be installed in the in the same directional orientation as it was in the original opposite slot as the pick up is sensitive to magnet polarity. Best to mark it in some way before refitting and gluing in place. If you get it wrong (as I did) the wiper will stop randomly when switched off and strangely the rear washer won't work either. This repair cost me £90.00 (cost of the used part from ebay). Hope this may help some of you with the same problem.
