Hi,
Can anybody give me a clue why my rear wiper on my 2006 frelander will not turn off. The only way i can stop it is to remove the fuse. Everything else seems to work OK.
thanx :(Pete

Hi My first point of call would be to check the switch as this makes and breaks the contact does it feel like it is working normally ?

Hi Gordon,

The switch feels fine, but i suppose it could but still be shorting out...i am wondering if it could be the reverse light switch, as it only stopped on after i reversed this morning...also wondering if the weather may have something to do with it, as we had a bit of the white stuff around today.
I am also confused why the wiper would continue to work after i had pulled the key out!

you have a short to earth from a permanent live wire there's one at the back behind the drivers side rear lamp cover. check that out.

edit: just realised I've wondered into the gaylander bit by mistake so don't know where the permanent live will be. I'd burn the bugger if I was you :D

Check the self park switch isn't stuck close (its inside the motor mechanism )
The wiper circuit gets its power from Link 4 in the engine compartment, which does not go through the ignition switch.

If it has a permanant live shorted to earth won't it burn itself? :)

Hi each
My next door neighbour sorted it (Genius - used to work at Lucas many years ago)).
We went through all checks, switches, earths, relays etc, eventually taking off the motor.
After deliberation and checking the motor which worked fine, he removed the plastic switch / contact plate. With the aid of his multi meter on a couple of contacts, with me pressing the micro switches it showed that the switches were actually working. We put the whole thing back together and voila it worked!
Our conclusion was that the switch contacts were dirty and the numerous occasions we activated the switch cleaned the terminals, or more probable the fact that the plastic switch / contact plate had seperated slightly from the body of the wiper. As the joint is only a push fit, a small seperation is enough to stop the contact touching the micro switch when the motor rotated. Hope this is a long lasting result

Well done that man. As is always the case with Landies, you got to have the confidence to have a go yourself. Then you can save so much money. See ya around!! :D
