I pulled off the trim panel of my tailgate to find that the reason the window is stuck in the door opening position is that the mechanism appears to be trashed with the drive cable rusted and broken. Now I can live with the window not operating 'cos I can open and shut the tailgate (so I get a beep on locking - I can live with that too) but I assume that the reason the rear wiper does not work is because the car thinks the window is open. Is there a way of operating the wiper bypassing this? - could I disconnect the wiper from the loom and operate it separately with a dedicated feed? Any ideas welcome.

Dedicated feed - I'm sure you could do that. However, the time and effort in doing that would equal replacing the rear mechanism. You may well be best and 'bitting the bullet' and replacing what's worn/broken.

I'd recommend simply getting the window working. I did mine and a full write up on it as well somewhere in here.

It is with a mate, a couple of not too bad hours most of which are spent making it align as perfectly as possible.

Before you order anything strip the rear lining off the door and see what state the regulator is in.

That will tell you whether just new cables, or new rails as well are needed due to corrosion.

I opted for 80 quid of new everything: as me mate said 'shame to replace part and have the motor go in a week'

and it was badly corroded.

Hmm - I imagine if it was easy and convenient many folks would have done it and reported back instead of tackling the main case - I think I will take your advice and bite the bullet - the rest of the car is great so I will feel justified in the expense.
Thanks Guys
