the closer i get to the MOT date more things go wrong a sware on it! lol

Ok so my rear window wiper stoped working when it worked perfectly fine in the past. i turn it on ant it starts to over heat so it cant be somthing wrong with the electrics. its not seased because i can spint the spindle with the wrench. im thinking it over heating because it jamed in some way. can anyone help please?

can this fail my MOT? if so, what if i just took the window wiper off? would that work?

thanks in advance

Ben

A quick google search gives the overall result that a rear windscreen wiper is NOt part of the MOT, but take that as you see it tbh.

As for the fault, i can't help you there, sorry.

If it was jammed then it would not move or be very slow.... just check if it gets hot without being switched on. I would expect the fuse to blow if it was under any strain. How hot is it getting.... smoking?

no its not smoking, just getting a little hot. i force turned it and its turning. when i turn it on you hear a click come from it

I had hours of fun with my one, they always seem to pack up.

If you can be arsed, take the plastic cover off from the inside of the door and you'll see the motor assembly. There is a small gearbox which you can take the metal cover off of (three screws i think) and the workings will be revealed. These may be seized up. There is a drive arm (like a kind of crankshaft) that you can pull out and then the motor is disconnected from the wiper, turn on the power and see if the motors working - it should spin round rapidly. You should be able to figure out what the problem is from here.

Or you could just save yourself a few hours of grief and not worry about it:p
