Hi folks, I am Graham, new to the site. I have a real annoying problem with my 2004 freelander td4 hse... I recently replaced the rear tailgate window regulator after cable snapped however, all was going great until i went to test it and found that when i push the switch down to open the window it closes and visa versa.

When i try to open the tailgate using the handle, window doesnt drop, so i cant open the door.

I have tried recalibration, no difference.
I stripped the regulator and wound it manually to the other end then retried it........ yip, you got it , no joy!
I even tried the motor from the old regulator so that in effect all that had been replaced was the cabling and still no joy,

Please can anyone enlighten me as to what is wrong with it?? many thanks, Graham.

From memory isn't the motor supply going through a double pole double throw relay - which switches polarity to the motor. - see attached diagram.
Could be simple connection to motor wrong way round on R205. Or R205 to central control unit?. What did you have in bits when you replaced the parts? - start there

Have you done the cable the correct way round? If you have routed it wrong it could be the problem.

Thanks folks, any other suggestions would be welcome, I will see if i get any joy with what you have suggested so far, will let you know. thanks again, G.

Did you take the cover off of the motor it's self?
I done this to mine and put it back on the wrong way around. Then as you said window works in reverse. Just took it back off and turned it 180 degrees and all back to normal.

the rear drop glass does run through a multifunction control module so could be that thats at fault?? If you have a power probe you could manually check the motor to illiminate that.......

Did a new motor come with the regulator? this cover could have been put on wrong when it was manufactured ...check what Oval is saying

Hi im jj a new member. I have a 1999 freelander td4. When i want to open the tailgate window it beeps once, when i want to close the window it doesnt make a noise and either way it doesnt work. Any help is appretiated

Just resurrecting/bump-ing an old thread to thank you guys for the advice & confirm the unexpected results - after correcting all the broken ally castings, twisted & reversed cables, bodges & misconnections made by a previous owner on my new '01 TD4, I was also left with a system which worked perfectly... but in reverse ! (Up button sent down, down sent up, window dropped to bottom on closing tailgate & nudged up an inch on opening). Having followed all the advice, photos & diagrams I could find, I was convinced I'd put it all back together correctly, so took off the motor cover (just about the only bit I hadn't touched), rotated through 180 degrees, replaced, and .... PERFECT !

Up goes up, down goes down, drops to open door & pops up when closing. Rear Wash-wipe sprung into life & once I replace the snapped off lug, I'm sure the rear screen heater will too.

Thanks Folks, this forum & thread are a lifesaver, & I'm certain to be back for more :)
